This lead is designed to connect boats with a 230v 16A Hubbell inlet plug to marina 16A 230v CEE power supplies, commonly referred to as a 'hook-up' or 'shore line' power cable. Please use the information below to ensure that your boat has a 230v 16A Hubbell connector:

Boat Inlet

Shoreline Lead Socket

Hubbell

230v 16A

The Hubbell connector is also the European version of a connector used in Northern America. The connector has flat blades, pushes in and then twists to lock.

The connector will be marked 230v 16A, although it is actually based on the NEMA L5-15 design.

The white section of the shoreline socket is 46mm in diameter and protrudes by 35mm, much further than the Marinco. The outside diameter of the blades in the boat inlet is smaller than the Marinco at 23mm.

The Hubbell can sometimes be mistaken for the Marinco connector below, which has a similar appearance. The length of the white section is the easiest way to confirm. If you require a lead with a Marinco connector click here.

Marinco

230v 16A

The Marinco is the European version of the most popular connector in Northern America. The connector has flat blades, pushes in and then twists to lock.

The connector will be marked 230v 16A, although it is actually based on the NEMA L5-30 design.

The white section of the shoreline socket is 45mm in diameter and protrudes by 19mm, far less than the Hubbell. The outside diameter of the blades in the boat inlet is 25mm.

230v 32A

A larger 32A (50mm diameter) version is available. There are also a myriad of 125v versions used in North America.

The internet seems to be awash with cheap boat hook ups using 1.5mmsq orange or blue artic cable. As 1.5mmsq cable is underrated and artic cable also has poor resistance to both mechanical/UV damage and should not be used below -5C, we won't entertain using it.

Our leads are carefully constructed in our UK workshop from marine grade 2.5mmsq H07BQ-F rubber cable, which offers many of the benefits of black H07RN-F rubber, with the advantage of being bright orange. The cable has a shiny silicone appearance and is exceptionally tough. It is also the same cable as the yellow version used in ready assembled leads supplied by Hubbell.

We offer a range of cable storage solutions to keep your lead neat and tidy.
